An Unbiased Look at the Idea of Separate Spheres

During the past few weeks in my AP US History class, it was a big topic of ours to study Woman's rights and the road to Woman's Suffrage as part of the Progressive Era. I thought this would be a really cool topic as it is something that I have not really looked into before.

As part of this discussion, it came to my revealing, that many of the Woman's rights activists agreed with the idea of a separate sphere for Women and Men, while others, namely a strong activist by the name of Alice Paul, sought complete equality (to an extent).

This made me really think about this concept and what is the true moral and biological standpoint on separate spheres.

After careful thought, I began to form certain opinions, merging knowledge from both the biological theater of information and the morality/equality standpoint. And here's the one fact that cannot be disputed:

Men and Women, are not the same creature.

This isn't even a biased or infuriating or degrading statement in any way. Its simply the truth in that both genders are created distinctly with differing qualities that make each one vital to the continuation of Humanity.

Because of this, equality, in its most fundamental sense, can never be achieved. Women are much better at certain things as compared to Men, while the opposite is also true. To avoid this fact and simply inflate ones ego concerning their personal gender by degrading the other sex is what is truly unacceptable.

With what I have seen, the biggest obstacle to the proper leveling out of rights to both genders is that each sex holds its personal views as being universal as well as filled with logical fallacies.

Certain women seek to argue that their gender has been the brunt of hundreds of years of discrimination, improper treatment, and therefore deserve special treatment and other benefits. This is the biggest hypocrisy as it is no longer even about equal treatment but about preferential treatment. This is a small example but nonetheless one that continues to occur.

In conclusion, Men and Women are the greatest complimentary pair that the universe has ever seen. They each have certain roles in society that are better fit to their own sex's physical and mental characteristics, and society benefits the most when this truth is accepted. With this said, I truly believe in my most liberal opinion, that men and women should occupy Separate but equally valuable spheres in society and government.
